How It Started

Back in 2010, Andris wasn't planning to become a hiking expert. He was volunteering with the Latvian Association for Older Adults, leading recreational walks through the valleys near Sigulda, when he noticed something troubling. Older hikers were struggling on poorly maintained trails, and nobody seemed to be designing routes specifically for aging bodies.

That frustration sparked a decision. He enrolled at Rīga Stradiņš University and completed a degree in Tourism Management in 2012. But credentials alone didn't feel enough. Andris pursued specialized training in accessible trail design and gerontology-informed tourism through the Latvian Tourism Development Agency. He wanted to understand not just what makes trails accessible, but why older adults loved being outdoors and what would keep them safe while exploring.

Over the next fourteen years, he guided over 2,000 older adults through castle ruins and viewpoint paths. He documented every accessibility challenge. He tested routes in different seasons. He talked to hikers about what worked and what didn't. That real-world experience became the foundation of everything he does now at hasanpix SIA.

What Andris Specializes In

Over 14 years, he's become one of Latvia's foremost authorities on senior-friendly outdoor experiences.

Castle Ruin Trails

Extensive accessibility audits of Kremon castle ruins and surrounding paths. He's mapped every step, every incline, and every rest spot to help older hikers navigate safely.

Viewpoint Path Design

Turaida viewpoint routes and hilltop approaches tailored for varying mobility levels. He knows which paths offer the best views with the least physical strain.

Senior-Focused Tourism

Gerontology-informed outdoor experiences. He designs every route with the realities of aging in mind — mobility, endurance, joint comfort, and pacing.

Route Documentation

Over 50 trail routes personally researched, tested, and documented with detailed accessibility notes. Each guide includes elevation, distance, rest areas, and difficulty ratings.

Safety & Accessibility

Training in both outdoor guide certification and accessibility standards. He's personally guided thousands of older adults and knows what prevents injuries and builds confidence.

Content & Research

Comprehensive guides on seasonal considerations, gear recommendations, and route selection. His writing transforms hands-on expertise into practical, actionable information for older hikers.

Why Age Doesn't Limit Adventure

Andris doesn't believe that getting older means staying indoors. He's seen too many capable, curious people accept that hiking is "for younger people." That belief bothers him.

His approach combines three things. First, meticulous route analysis — he walks every path he recommends and documents what actually happens on the ground. Second, real conversations with the older adults he's guided. He listens to what challenges them, what excites them, and what keeps them coming back. Third, he translates that knowledge into practical guides that don't patronize or oversimplify.

He's written extensively about seasonal considerations, proper gear selection, and pacing strategies. Not because older hikers need a different sport, but because thoughtful preparation makes the difference between a day that feels impossible and a day that feels incredible.

"Age shouldn't limit outdoor adventure. What's needed is honest route information, realistic pacing, and the confidence that comes from knowing exactly what you're getting into."
