Andris Liepa
Senior Hiking Routes Expert
Specialized in accessible castle ruin trails and hilltop viewpoints for older adults across the Sigulda-Kremon-Turaida region. 14 years of hands-on expertise guiding seniors through Latvia's most scenic landscapes.
How It Started
Back in 2010, Andris wasn't planning to become a hiking expert. He was volunteering with the Latvian Association for Older Adults, leading recreational walks through the valleys near Sigulda, when he noticed something troubling. Older hikers were struggling on poorly maintained trails, and nobody seemed to be designing routes specifically for aging bodies.
That frustration sparked a decision. He enrolled at Rīga Stradiņš University and completed a degree in Tourism Management in 2012. But credentials alone didn't feel enough. Andris pursued specialized training in accessible trail design and gerontology-informed tourism through the Latvian Tourism Development Agency. He wanted to understand not just what makes trails accessible, but why older adults loved being outdoors and what would keep them safe while exploring.
Over the next fourteen years, he guided over 2,000 older adults through castle ruins and viewpoint paths. He documented every accessibility challenge. He tested routes in different seasons. He talked to hikers about what worked and what didn't. That real-world experience became the foundation of everything he does now at hasanpix SIA.

Why Age Doesn't Limit Adventure
Andris doesn't believe that getting older means staying indoors. He's seen too many capable, curious people accept that hiking is "for younger people." That belief bothers him.
His approach combines three things. First, meticulous route analysis — he walks every path he recommends and documents what actually happens on the ground. Second, real conversations with the older adults he's guided. He listens to what challenges them, what excites them, and what keeps them coming back. Third, he translates that knowledge into practical guides that don't patronize or oversimplify.
He's written extensively about seasonal considerations, proper gear selection, and pacing strategies. Not because older hikers need a different sport, but because thoughtful preparation makes the difference between a day that feels impossible and a day that feels incredible.
"Age shouldn't limit outdoor adventure. What's needed is honest route information, realistic pacing, and the confidence that comes from knowing exactly what you're getting into."
